Reverse the Red - Introducing the Indianapolis Zoo SSC Global Center for Species Survival

Why attend
This session will introduce the World Conservation Congress audience to the Global Center for Species Survival, a unique partnership between Indianapolis Zoo and the Species Survival Commission. Further, members, government institutions, zoos, among other organisations will be aware of the Global Center and and how they can get involved.
HideDescription
The Indianapolis Zoo has formed a groundbreaking partnership with the IUCN Species Survival Commission to establish a new Global Center for Species Survival (GCSS). The GCSS will focus on supporting, connecting, and communicating the work and efforts of more than 10,500 conservationists and 165 specialist groups and task forces. The Zoo has hired seven international species conservation experts as coordinators, whose roles will support the SSC’s 2021-2024 Species Strategic Plan through implementing the species conservation cycle of Assess-Plan-Act, with a focus on planning and action. With expert coordinators dedicated to catalyze the conservation of mammals, plants and fungi, birds, invertebrates, amphibians and reptiles, and marine and freshwater species, the GCSS hopes to greatly increase the SSC’s capacity to Reverse the Red for global biodiversity.
