Restoring the fabric of nature and humanity – peace, conflict and environment in a post-Covid world

¿Por qué asistir a esta sesión?
As the Covid-19 pandemic has evidenced the importance of nature & ecosystems more than ever, how can nature can be a healing & restorative force for humanity and help mitigate pressures that drive or result from conflict. Join us on a deep dive into the role of well-governed and managed natural resources in a world that is both divided & connected.
HideDescripción
The number of countries involved in ‘violent conflicts’ is the highest in 30 years, and more than 80 million people have been forcibly displaced within their countries or across borders, almost half of them due to conflict. Violent conflict undermines development and environmental protection in many of the world’s most biodiverse places. This is the context for our dialogue which will explore how integrating well governed natural resources management in conflict prevention, resolution & recovery can build resilience in communities and foster peace & security. The dialogue will challenge us to find answers at a time when the planetary crossroads are no longer looming, but are here. How can conservation be pursued in places affected by violence? How can conservation go beyond the ‘do-no-harm’ approaches to have a positive impact on peace? What are the tools at our disposal to better govern, manage & conserve natural resources? What are the big new ideas & creative solutions?
